About the album:

“On a random Friday Night in January 2022, Tone called me around 8:30PM. He was clearly inebriated – drunk or high, who could tell, but it was probably both.

Anyways, he started rambling on about Command Records, Enoch Light and mid-century geometric abstract art. He said he was in Apples and Oranges Records and he picked up two Persuasive Percussion Records, and the purveyor of the establishment, the legendary George Puleo, said “if you like Command Records, I have a few more back here.” Tone Continued in a rant-like state: “George grabbed 5-6 more LPs, so I bought them all, then stopped at the liquor store for bourbon, then I stopped at Dj U*iv*rs***’s house for some weed, and headed home and I have made three beats already. And I haven’t even eaten dinner yet.”

Needless to say, I told him to put something in his stomach other than bourbon.

That night, he made three beats from those records: the Command Economy introduction, and two other beats that didn’t make the cut, but he wrote the lyrics for the Command Economy introduction right that evening, which would serve as a manifesto and guiding principle for the project.

Anyway, Tone called ME and told ME to call Nick and Cutler to set up a meeting at Cut’s place on Saturday morning at 9am – incidentally, he had the audacity to ask ME to bring the coffee. I did. We try to let him cook when he’s cooking.

Cut’s son was quite young, he was fine, but his daughter, who is way too smart for her own good and could tell, even at 4, that I was not in a good mood -- she definitely called me 'little guy' and ‘salty.’

What transpired was a long-winded rant from Tone, which Nick grimaced at, but Cut picked up on as soon as Tone started putting it down: it was about the state of sampling, producers offering beats with ‘no samples’ due to the state of the algorithm, vinyl collecting and how expensive record digging has become, especially in Buffalo since record theatre closed and Revolver Records opened so many stores with higher priced used vinyl. Nick only looked up from his phone to give me an uncomfortable 'are they almost done' look. When they were finally done, Nick simply said, "just send me the goddamned beats." Anyways, the idea was born that we would take these beautiful records that too few take seriously and make an entire album from Command Records: the $1 gems no one is looking for.

The Pseudo Boys sketched 4-5 ideas around songs, sent them to Bob at Chopped Herring, and Bob was immediately in. They enlisted some friends from other projects, Dr. Ooo, Nelson Rivera, Nick Gonzales, Tommy Quattro, Definition and brought along a few new collaborators that we are excited to announce have joined the team for the effort: Toney Boi, H20 and the Cut Beetlez.

Enoch Light, the founder of Command Records, had a singular vision: the sound was impeccably mixed and panned, and ripe for the chopping. The vision was not just audio, however, and of course, the look of the records by art director Charles E. Murry is the best in mid-century popular art. To revisit that style, there was only one name that came to mind: Julian Montague. Julian agreed, and the team was set.

We now have, what I would say, despite my early uncertainty, the best Pseudo album, the fourth with Chopped Herring Records, and, yet another principled stance in audio (at the level of form and content) against the status quo."
